The Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima met the double bassist Oliver Potratz and the drummer Oliver Steidle in Berlin in year 2000. These three have become companions on a musical journey that has lasted almost twenty-five years so far. They have defined their own sound and are solidly challenging the limits of the musical possibilities of the trio formation. The combination of Finnish roots and Berlin vibe results in original, wild, creative jazz music. Klima Kalima uses elements from rock, blues and folk to give their modern jazz sound a quirky accent. The Album “Finn Noir” was released in 2013 by Enja Records. Their previous albums “Loru”, Chasing Yellow “and” Helsinki on my mind” received very good reviews internationally. They won the “New German Jazz Prize” in 2008. The next program was about astronomical journeys and the live album “Live on Planet Berlin” recorded by RBB in January 2020 was released in March 2022. Now they are working on their 6th album which will be leased in 2025. This project, “Voyagers Blues”, is about the twin satellites Voyager 1 and 2. The band Klima Kalima plays the soundtrack to the imaginary film about the dying and increasingly lonely satellites. It also fits the lifestyle of the three musicians, who are also condemned to be on the road for life. http://www.yellowbird-records.com/

“While it was storming and thundering outside, Kalima’s music reached astronautical heights in the Flottmannhallen, looking at the incredibly long time span in which comets orbit the earth. The post-rock piece inspired by this sounded like a hymn to the dissolution of time. Wonderful. Over the rhythmic breaking points of bass and drums, Kalima developed his improvisation lines with an elaborate, very individual style: his electric guitar sound exuded a touch of sobriety even when he was extremely virtuosic. The organizers’ promise that Kalima would bring the guitar into the 21st century was definitely kept that evening in Herne.“

Klima Kalima überzeugen durch Originalität, Stimmungs-und Klangvielfalt – Live sowohl auch auf CD bleibt Klima Kalima einer der ideenreichsten, humorigsten Gitarrentrios, die Berlin zu bieten hat.
